05 THE SHIRI BOKA FESTIVAL
WOMAN CREATES WORLDS INTEGRATED CAMPAIGN
But in times of crisis Zimbabweans have this incredible ability to create strong communities and help each other.
Like at the beginning of 2019 when the country faced a huge crisis with cyclone Idai. People gathered together to donate anything they could to help their fellow Zimbabweans in crisis.
This was the main inspiration for my concept.
I decided to call the festival 'Shiri Boka' which translates as a group of birds. The Shiri Boka festival aims to bring all the flocks from all over the world home to roost with ‘Good Vibes Only’.
Moto Republic is the first creative hub in Zimbabwe and they are putting together a “Woman Creates Worlds” hub unconference at the Shoko festival. We were asked to create a campaign for them to help them make this Unconference Festival happen.“Birds look for one another to land together, but fly individually.”
Translated to shona -'Shiri dzinotarisana kuti dzikwanise kugara pamwe, asi dzinobhururuka dzakasarudzika.' I felt this quote spoke beautifully to what the country has gone through. On a daily basis the people of Zimbabwe fight their own battles.
I named the gin “The Citizen Craft Gin” as it focuses on becoming a conscious citizen. I chose to show this through digital illustrations of sea creatures to show the ocean, plastic to show the waste we produce, a fishing net to show the depletion of the ocean and an aloe to represent the Cape Reserves. The choice of the bright colours was to make the packaging bright and for it to stand out. The colours are also ones that make us think of the coral, the ocean and bright aloe flowers.
I wanted to use the consumption of alcohol and peoples enjoyment of gin to go towards making a difference.
My brand is based on being sustainable.
06 THE MCC SPIRIT PACKAGING
THE CITIZEN CRAFT GIN
This open-ended brief was made with the aim to create a label that had a purpose. With the research done on different spirits, I ended up choosing to focus on gin. Many gin companies focus on the origins of gin, the fact it comes from England. Others focus on the botanical flavours of the gin.
I chose to focus on the main element of gin which is water. Water is a precious resource that we take for granted. As we in the Western Cape have struggled with drought and lack of access to the water we need. I wanted to create a label that would focus on fresh and salt water, looking at the waste we put in water and how it affects the plants and the ocean animals. The focus of the label is to build peoples awareness of our planet, to become conscious of our limited resources.
07 THE CHIC & DAPPER RAMBLE LIFESTYLE
RETAIL CAMPAIGN
Backpack to handbag. This bag has a handle system that allows you to wear the bag in two ways, both a backpack and shoulder bag by pulling up the middle strap to create the shoulder strap. The side panels extend outwards to allow for more room for items in your bag. It can then be made into a more compact handbag by pushing the extensions inwards.
The bag has compartments for all the small things that get lost at the bottom of the bag, as well as a hook for your keys. This is followed through with a social media launch hype feed we created to market the bag.
Ramble Bags have delved in to creating a bag for the business, sport and photography market, but yet to tap into the lifestyle market. The lifestyle bag was to target a specific niche, my partner for this project Amy Smith and I found that as designers we had one big problem which we needed to solve.
Every day we attend class with ugly backpacks that are uncomfortable and unattractive, they don’t express our artistic side, they are embarrassing to walk around town with and don’t give you confidence.
We created two bags which can fit your laptop, sketchbook and other necessary items. The Chic and Dapper.
A bag that’s made for the creatives or aspiring creatives, people that appreciate design, performance and quality.
Compact to spacious.

SELF PROMOTION
Beauty has a way of giving us hope and inspiring us, I love the creativity of art to show case this. Even more than that I want to create awareness for different issues and do so creatively.
Here is the beginning of my solutions. I created pieces that show less than a third of our endangered species. Just as when we are little and learn the alphabet, our ABC’s. We take that knowledge and then learn to read and write. I create the “alphabet” to endangered animals, a starter kit to spark peoples interest further than their just whats in front of us or on a cellphone but to a larger.
As a society goes we are very image-driven, its the only form of communication that can reach a wide range of cultures. Education is the reason I am where I am at this point of time, this is not just because I atteneded good schools but because I also was luckier enough to have passionate people around me growing up. I believe education is a powerful tool and can be used to change lives. As Malcom X said “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
